CO2 reduction through reforestation and the use of electric forklifts

The global population is currently 8.1 billion. By 2050, it could be as much as 9.7 billion. An estimated 80% will live in megacities and metropolitan areas. With the rapid increase in shipping volumes and goods traffic, the demands on intralogistics are also constantly growing.
At Jungheinrich, we see ourselves as drivers of the field of sustainable intralogistics. Because it impacts so many key industries (e.g., transportation, logistics, pharmaceutical), we can make quite a difference with our products and solutions. With most CO2e emissions occurring during the use phase of our vehicles, Jungheinrich has set itself the goal of achieving a 70 per cent equipment ratio of industrial trucks with lithium-ion batteries by 2025. In fact, our electric forklift powered by a lithium-ion battery emits on average up to 52% less CO2e than one powered by a diesel engine!
To serve as a positive message for our customers, showcasing their conversion as a step towards environmental responsibility, we have partnered with Garden City Fund (GCF) Singapore in the OneMillionTrees movement. This nationwide effort to improve our urban environment and enhance our resilience towards climate change will plant a million more trees in our streetscapes, gardens, parks and nature reserves over the next 10 years, bringing the number of trees in Singapore to more than 8 million by 2030.
In addition to that, we have also partnered with Animal Projects & Environmental Education (APE) Malaysia to plant trees in Lower Kinabatangan, Sabah, the main artery that links the Heart of Borneo in central Sabah to the large diversity of wildlife. Through this reforestation project, we create habitats for endangered animals such as the Bornean orangutan and Bornean pygmy elephant with the local Orang Sungai people, planting a mixture of flowering, native fruit-bearing trees, fast growing pioneers, swampland specialists and hardwood trees.
